Viserys was chosen over his older cousin Rhaenys, wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, on account of their sexes. Viserys is married to Queen Aemma Arryn, and together, they have one daughter, Rhaenyra. Without a son, King Viserys's brother, Daemon, is the heir presumptive to the Iron Throne.
Aegon’s Death
After the Targaryen Civil War, all the dragons died, drastically reducing the power the Targaryens had in Westeros. They continued ruling as the royal family until Robert’s Rebellion. With King Aerys II Targaryen’s death, House Targaryen’s influence faded in Westeros.
Game of Thrones: Season 1
The Faith Militant became so strong, they forced the sitting king, Aenys I, into fleeing the capital. Upon his death at Dragonstone, Maegor Targaryen began a tyrannical reign. Maegor became infamous for his cruelty, and his mysterious death was met with relief.
The Targaryen Family Tree Explained
The two sides will rally their allies and summon the armies in the showdown of the century. Though he was killed, his sons and their descendants would carry on the fight in new wars for nearly 60 years. The Blackfyre Rebellions only ended when the last of the Blackfyre males was killed during the War of the Ninepenny Kings. The Targaryens initially installed their own vassals in the empty castles, only to have all of their representatives be run out or murdered by the returning Dornishmen. Dorne led a few advances into Aegon's territory, burning southern towns before retreating. The greatest loss suffered by the Targaryens came when Dornish soldiers killed Meraxes, Rhaenys' dragon, whose plummet from the sky resulted in his mistress' death as well.
Clever and athletic, Rhaenyra (played by Milly Alcock as a teen) is at first more interested in riding her dragon, Syrax, than in winning games of thrones. That changes when her father can’t make up his mind who to appoint as his heir, and she becomes first an unwitting pawn and then an active player in the battle for succession. Still, Rhaenys, nicknamed “the Queen That Never Was,” is a popular member of the royal family, and many people still profess loyalty to her and her progeny. Meanwhile, until Viserys can produce a male heir — or until the court decides it’s fine for a woman to rule — his brother Daemon is next in line to succeed to the throne. As a result, House Targaryen gained the support of the largely intact forces of the Reach, Dorne, and the Iron Islands.
Though ostensibly the son of Rhaenyra’s husband Laenor Velaryon, the audience knows that the couple have reached an agreement in which they can both have extramarital affairs because Laenor is gay. Alicent clearly suspects that Rhaenrya’s sons have a different father since she demands to inspect Rhaenyra’s baby immediately after the princess gives birth. The show heavily hints that the true father of Jacaerys and his siblings is Harwin Strong, the heir to the title of Lord of Harrenhal.

Jaehaerys died after half a century of rule and his grandson Viserys I took the throne after him, ruling well in a time of peace and plenty. His death, however trigged a major crisis when his daughter, Rhaenyra, whom he had raised to rule after him, was supplanted by her half-brother Aegon. The result was a two-year-long civil war called the Dance of Dragons, which saw many lesser branches of the Targaryen family and most of their extant dragons destroyed. The war ended with Rhaenyra's death, but Aegon, ruling as Aegon II, did not long outlive her and Rhaenyra's son took the throne as Aegon III. Haunted by his mother's death and memories of the war, Aegon III was fearful of dragons and the last Targaryen dragon died during his rule, for which event he was called the 'Dragonbane'.
After Rhaenyra cuts short her tour of Westeros, Daemon introduces the princess to the Street of Silk after dark. Viserys hosts a tournament to celebrate the birth of his second child. According to the TV series official pronunciation guide developed for the cast and crew, "Targaryen" is pronounced "Tar-GAIR-ee-in". After Daenerys’s death, Grey Worm and the Unsullied sailed to Naath to protect its people as Grey Worm had promised Missandei. Meanwhile, the Dothraki either returned to Essos or integrated themselves into Westerosi society. However, following the Assassination of Balon Greyjoy, the Coup in Dorne and the Destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor, the attitudes of several major factions changed dramatically.
What happened to Prince Viserys Targaryen?
However, House of the Dragon has a chance to adapt the story and give each character a unique voice and personality. The scene where we first understand Rhaenyra’s will and confidence is when she negotiates the dragon egg’s return from Daemon at Dragonstone. This incident is not in the book but proves to be a thoughtful gateway into the Princess’s fierce persona. Being a television show, it has the freedom to craft individual characters and how they must have sounded.
After much anticipation, House of the Dragon—the prequel to Game of Thrones—finally premieres on Sunday, August 21 on HBO. Since the family line is complicated, T&C put together a Targaryen family tree so you can follow along as you watch. Keep scrolling to find out more about the main characters and their relatives. From this time on, it is said that Aerys danced on the edge of madness. He alienated Tywin by going back on an agreement to marry his son Rhaegar to Tywin's daughter Cersei, instead wedding him to Princess Elia Martell of Dorne.
Though with a new faith, they kept to Valyrian customs like incest; this led to problems with the Faith and would eventually lead to a conflict that led to the outlaw of the Faith Militant. Note, this is based on George R.R. Martin's book series, but could differ from the show. If you don't want anything spoiled about House of the Dragon or Game of Thrones, stop reading now.
The Rhoynar fled Essos altogether, landing in Westeros and eventually becoming the Dornish. The Andals, who would go on to make up the dominant ethnic group of Westeros, chose exodus as well. Old Valyria shaped the world far beyond its own vast borders, to the point of defining Westeros long before they actually conquered it, via the Targaryens. After his conquest, Aegon built the Iron Throne and created King’s Landing as the capital. However, the Dornish Wars ended in a truce as Queen Rhaenys and her dragon Meraxes got killed by the Dornish forces.
Though the Targaryens maintained their grip on power, the great house nearly tore itself apart in a conflict known as the Dance of the Dragons. Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra both believed they were the rightful heir to the Iron Throne — and they were willing to shed blood over it. Some 50 years after that, the question of who should rule returned in the form of the Blackfyre Rebellions.
He liked to visit the ruined hall at Summerhall for solitude, disappearing with only his harp for company and emerging weeks later with new compositions of surpassing beauty and melancholy. However, before those orders could be carried out, Jaime Lannister assassinated King Aerys himself. Viserys Targaryen is played by Harry Lloyd in the HBO adaption of the books. A common-born knight of Dornish descent who first made an impression on Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen when he defeated Prince Daemon in a tournament. Princess Rhaenyra chooses Ser Criston to fill a vacancy in the Kingsguard because he is the only candidate with actual field combat experience.
However, Daenerys Targaryen started gaining power in Essos and rose to become the Queen of Meereen. In Essos, Daenerys and her brother Viserys stay with Magister Illyrio Mopatis at Pentos. To get an army to invade Westeros, Viserys gives his sister Daenerys to Khal Drogo of the Dothraki. Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, King Robert Baratheon sends a message offering lordship to whoever kills Daenerys. House Targaryen got founded before 114 BC as one of the forty noble houses of the Valyrian Empire.
After losing several of her closest advisers and two of her dragons, Daenerys launched an all-out assault on King's Landing. As her Unsullied and Dothraki armies stormed the city on the ground, Daenerys was consumed with rage while flying on the back of her last living dragon. The sight of the Red Keep drove her into a frenzy, and she proceeded to attack King's Landing indiscriminately, raining down fire on combatants and civilians alike. The battle knocked down the Red Keep with Queen Cersei Lannister and her brother, Jaime Lannister, inside. The most difficult uprising did not arrive on the battlefield, however — it came from within the church. A militant sect of the Faith of the Seven emerged, which objected to Targaryen practices of polygamy and incest.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
Daeron's brother Baelor, a holy man who preferred a life of religious study, was crowned King and went to Dorne to make peace, successfully negotiating Aemon the Dragonknight's release. King Viserys Targaryen’s first-born child, who rides a dragon named Syrax. She has grown up watching her father wish for a son to secure his succession. After her mother’s death, Viserys names Princess Rhaenyra his heir, breaking from the established Targaryen tradition of male succession. Was married to Laenor Velaryon, with whom she had a certain understanding.
Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon Cast
Daenys Targaryen, who came to be known as Daenys the Dreamer, had a vision that the city of Valyria—where all the dragonriders once resided—would be consumed in some apocalyptic event. Her father, Aenar, took this vision to heart and moved his entire family out of Valyria to Dragonstone. Daenys’ vision came to pass, and the Targaryens became the last remaining dragonriders in the world. House Targaryen[1][c] of King's Landing, known poetically as the House of the Dragon,[2] is the royal house of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. A century ago, House Targaryen conquered and unified the realm under the leadership of Aegon the Conqueror and his sister-queens Visenya and Rhaenys.

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons". Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
He had the chance to make the Targaryen name great again, but he chose to give way to Bran, the keeper of stories. House the Dragon takes a firm stance in showing the events from one perspective as opposed to different ones in Fire and Blood. This enables them to choose the sequence and events in the narrative that fit more suitably. An exceptional example of such decision-making is seen when Viserys dismisses Otto as the Hand of the King. The book mentions this event after Otto urges Viserys to name Alicent’s son as next in line for the throne. However, the show charts its own path and adds Rhaenyra to the twist to build tension between all the parties involved.
Aegon envisaged a Westeros united under one ruler, and he determined he would be that ruler. Near Meereen, Daenerys was nearly killed, but Arstan Whitebeard slew the assassin and revealed himself as Barristan Selmy. He claimed he had sought her out as the true heir to the Seven Kingdoms. Selmy also revealed that Daenerys's trusted sworn knight had been sending reports on her actions to King's Landing, hoping for a pardon from King Robert. Daenerys felt betrayed by each of them, though both fervently wished to atone for their actions. Having captured Meereen, Dany turned her eyes toward Westeros, but learned that there was much she did not know about ruling.

Is very aware her father actually pays attention to her sister Baela. Raised by her father and stepmother Rhaenyra Targaryen in Dragonstone after her mother’s death. King Viserys Targaryen’s younger brother and presumptive heir — or so he believes. A formidable warrior, Prince Daemon serves as the commander of the City Watch of King’s Landing. The prince has his eye on the Iron Throne, but key figures do not believe he’s fit to rule.
Essos
If there’s anything viewers learned over eight seasons of “Game of Thrones,” it’s that, in Westeros, no one is too important or too beloved to suffer a sudden, horrible death. Princess Rhaenys’ dragon is named Meleys, also known as the Red Queen. According to the books, Meleys was the dragon first ridden by Rhaenys’ aunt, Princess Alyssa Targaryen (King Viserys’ mother). Despite Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) having been the official heir for years, the Green Council concludes with the coronation of King Aegon II. Over the course of the series viewers could see up to 17 different dragons. As they are introduced, be sure to visit the Official Dragon Index for a quick look at which dragon is which.

House of the Dragon: Everything to Know About Dragonseeds.
It would certainly be one way to set House of the Dragon apart from Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones fans hoping to see a few familiar faces may be disappointed in House of the Dragon. Given that it's set 200 years in the past, it goes without saying that the cast of characters is entirely different. However, it remains to be seen just how much of the Westerosi timeline the show will ultimately cover. Certain characters like Maester Aemon were old enough to remember the reign of Targaryens and the bloodshed that resulted. If the setting jumps ahead 100 years or so in a future season, it's not out of the question we could see much younger versions of characters like Aemon.
A Great Council met, and although Aemon Targaryen got offered the throne, he rejected the offer as he was a maester; this led to Aegon V’s ascension. Though his reign was rocky, Aegon V created many reforms to help the smallfolk. When his first son Duncan broke his wedding to Lord Lyonel Baratheon’s daughter, a rebellion began, leading to Lyonel’s death. Aegon V later died in a fire at the Tragedy of Summerhall, and his son Jaehaerys became King.
Confused, then terrified, Aemma is pinned to the bed by a team of midwives as the grand maester makes an incision to her abdomen and removes the infant. Moments later, Viserys weeps over her lifeless body, which lies on a blood-soaked bed. ‘This Is Going to Hurt’ created TV’s most accurate portrayal of childbirth — and its ‘sticky, sweaty, bloody’ vision could change the conversation. Princess Rhaenys is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark, who is also known as the Sea Snake for his seafaring abilities.
Aegon II Targaryen (Ty Tennant, then Tom Glynn-Carney) arrives just in time to send the kingdom into further chaos as lords question why the Iron Throne would pass to Rhaenyra when the king finally has a son. As a teenager, though, Aegon seems to care little about who inherits the throne. He spends most of his time bullying the other children in the castle.
Even though HBO has shelved its untitled prequel series set during the mythical Age of Heroes, it's moving forward with a different prequel. House of the Dragon, a series based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood, has been given a straight-to-series order with a 10-episode first season. And we know now that House of the Dragon will debut on August 21, 2022, on HBO. A noble family of Valyrian descent who left their homeland before its collapse.
The Haunting of Hill House is an American supernatural horror drama television miniseries created and directed by Mike Flanagan, produced by Amblin Television and Paramount Television, for Netflix, and serves as the first entry in The Haunting anthology series. It is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire, invites five people to a party he is throwing for his fourth wife, Annabelle, in an allegedly haunted house he has rented. He promises to give each guest $10,000 with the stipulation that they stay the entire night in the house after the doors are locked at midnight, all the windows are barred, and there are no phones or radios to use. The guests are test pilot Lance Schroeder, newspaper columnist Ruth Bridges, psychiatrist Dr. David Trent, who specializes in hysteria, Nora Manning, who works for one of Loren's companies, and the house's owner, Watson Pritchard.

There's far more where Shirley Jackson and Henry James came from. While Bly Manor and Hill House both feature ghosts (lots of 'em, in fact), the shows are as concerned with exploring what ghosts represent as creating jump scares. Take Bly Manor's tagline, "Dead doesn't mean gone." In another horror work, this sentence would be purely foreboding.
Season Info
The Haunting of Hill House is a 1959 gothic horror novel by American author Shirley Jackson. It was a finalist for the National Book Award and has been made into two feature films and a play, and is the basis of a Netflix series. She spoke at length about her story, the experiences she endured and the struggles she faced when reporting what she'd lived through.
The Haunting Of Hill House ( Part 2
Sara finds Price, covered in blood and with Blackburn's severed head nearby, and shoots him. Eddie and Pritchett arrive and bring Sara upstairs, after which Evelyn approaches Price to gloat. Price, protected by a bulletproof vest and posing as dead, attacks Evelyn. As they scuffle, Evelyn is thrown through a decaying door, revealing the evil entity of the house – The Darkness. The building's security system is mysteriously tripped, locking everyone inside – a stunt which Price blames on Evelyn.
'The Haunting Of Hill House' Review: A Terrifying Blend Of Supernatural Horror And Psychological Drama
The film received negative reviews from critics, but was a commercial success, opening number one at the box office, and grossed $43 million worldwide. The first series, titled The Haunting of Hill House, is loosely based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson. The Haunting of Hill House received critical acclaim, particularly for its acting, directing, and production values. A follow-up series by Flanagan titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, with most of the same crew and some of the same cast but a different story and characters, was released on October 9, 2020. After Nora, Watson, and Ruth release Lance from the secret room, Nora tells them that she shot Frederick.
The Haunting of Hill House — Miniseries
“Since it was built a century ago, seven people—including my brother—have been murdered in it.” The film’s plot follows five people who are promised $10,000 each if they can spend the whole night in the eerie property, which is “played” by the Ennis House. The film was remade as the 1999 film House on Haunted Hill, which had a 2007 sequel titled Return to House on Haunted Hill. The 1999 film was released to negative reviews but was a box office success, while the 2007 sequel was direct-to-video and widely panned. Lorimar Productions released the film on VHS cassette on CBS/Fox Video's Key Video in October 1985. Two major studios have released it on home video in remastered versions. Warner Home Video released the film on DVD as a tie-in to the release of the 1999 remake.
If season 3 happens, it will feature the same cast, more or less.
Haunting may not be around the corner—but another Flanagan project is. Production on Flanagan's next Netflix horror series, Midnight Mass, began in August. Midnight Mass will feature two Haunting regulars–Henry Thomas and Kate Siegel, who happens to be Flanagan's wife. The cast of Bly Manor and Hill House don't play favorites between the shows. When asked to decide whether Hill House or Bly Manor is scarier, Jackson-Cohen is torn.

Haunting Of Hill House: Everything The Red Room Pretended To Be (& Why).
If the cast has any say in the matter, the answer is a resounding yes. Much like Ryan Murphy's horror anthology American Horror Story, the Haunting series features the same actors playing new characters—and "the regulars" are open to returning. Production on the series began in October 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia, with location filming in the city and its environs. Bisham Manor, former name of the property located in LaGrange, served as the exterior of "Hill House." The house's interior settings were filmed at EUE/Screen Gem Studios in Atlanta. In the summer of 1992, Hugh and Olivia Crain and their children - Steven "Steve", Shirley "Shirl", Theodora "Theo", Luke, and Eleanor "Nell" - move into Hill House to renovate the mansion in order to sell it and build their own house, designed by Olivia.
In 2007, the film was followed by a direct-to-DVD sequel, Return to House on Haunted Hill, which was released in both rated and unrated editions. If you’ve ever seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Day of the Locust, or Blade Runner, then you’ve also seen the Ennis House. In the films, the property is used to depict a vampire mansion, a private residence, and an apartment building respectively. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1923 and constructed in 1924, the home has made more than 80 onscreen appearances throughout its near century-long existence, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
It's clear that had Olivia never moved into Hill House, she never would have attempted to murder her own children. But then that raises questions about why Olivia succumbed so much to Hill House's corrupting influence while Nell remained relatively untouched. As Flanagan explained, just like how people process grief differently, people react to Hill House differently. "Some people are just more vulnerable. Or more special. There are more ways in, and darkness can infiltrate and take root in their lives in different ways. But there are no characters in our show who are immune," he said. There were a lot of ghosts running around Hill House, but we only ever really got to know Poppy Hill, the unhinged flapper who pushed Olivia (Carla Gugino) over the edge.
In collaboration with Rob Zombie, Waxwork Records is thrilled to release Rob Zombie Presents HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Von Dexter. Starring Vincent Price, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL is a 1959 American Horror film produced and directed by William Castle. Vincent Price plays an eccentric millionaire, Frederick Loren, who, along with his wife Annabelle, has invited five people to a house for a "haunted house" party. As the night progresses, the guests are trapped within the house with an assortment of terrors. The film uses many props used in carnival haunted houses to generate fear and terror. The film is also known for its promotional gimmick, Emergo, which included a "flying skeleton" that would appear over the audience as they enjoyed the film in a movie theater.
Additionally, its proximity to Tinseltown, the unique ability to look both ancient and modern, and its grand scale make it a special piece of LA real estate. To watch Wyetzner break down the history and architecture of other iconic horror homes, check out the newest episode of Blueprints. Based on the exchange of scary stories in the first episode, the hotel used to be a convent. Perhaps it will be the inspiration for season 3 of the Haunting series. Given this pattern, will there be a third installment in Flanagan's Haunting series?
The color version was released on DVD the same year by 20th Century Fox. Extras prepared by Legend Films for the Fox DVD release included an audio commentary track by comedian Michael J. Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000, two versions of the trailer, and a slideshow of images from the film's original press book. In the tradition of William Castle's theater gimmicks, Warner Bros. Pictures supplied promotional scratchcards to cinemas showing the film, offering ticket buyers a chance to win a money prize, similar to the movie's characters.
While Nell is being haunted by the Bent-Neck Lady and Luke (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is being followed by William Hill, Shirley finds herself haunted by the man she cheated on her husband with. This character, played by One Tree Hill's James Lafferty, isn't dead, but his one-night stand with Shirley continues to haunt her, and therefore he is a ghost. The Haunting of Hill House is an effective ghost story whose steadily mounting anticipation is just as satisfying as its chilling payoff. The novel has been adapted to film twice, in 1963 and again in 1999, both times under the title The Haunting. The 1963 version is a relatively faithful adaptation and received critical praise.
Season Info
Olivia says her mother was "sensitive," like Theo, and Olivia's own powers were made clear when she shared the story of the time she made it rain stones as a child. According to Flanagan, Nell (Victoria Pedretti) inherited the ability to look across time from Olivia, while Shirley (Elizabeth Reaser) got the dream sleep, which explains her premonition about "dancing in the red room" while she slept as a child. The house's two caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, refuse to stay near the house at night. The four overnight visitors begin to form friendships as Montague explains the building's history, which encompasses suicide and other violent deaths.
House on Haunted Hill
Frederick is convinced Annabelle tried to poison him to acquire his wealth, which Annabelle somewhat evasively denies, attributing his suspicions to paranoia and jealousy. Watson believes the house is genuinely haunted by the ghosts of those murdered there, including his own brother; he claims to have spent one night there before and "was almost dead" when found the next morning. He gives a tour of the house, including a vat of acid in the basement, which a previous resident used to kill his wife.
'A lot of women just put up with it': Understanding vulvodynia
Having encountered further apparitions, Nora decides against staying the night, but the caretakers lock the doors five minutes early, taking that option out of the guests' hands. Evelyn seemingly dies in front of the others, strapped to an electroshock therapy table. Price pulls a gun on the guests, demanding to know who killed his wife. Eddie knocks him out and they lock Price in the "Saturation Chamber", an archaic zoetrope device that Vannacutt used to treat schizophrenics. When the others leave, he turns the chamber on, leaving Price to be tortured by the moving images and ghostly hallucinations, resulting in a seizure. In Vannacutt's office, Sara and Eddie find a portrait of the hospital's head staff and realize that the party guests are descendants of the five survivors of the 1931 fire.
Adaptations
All are strangers to both the Lorens and each other, their only commonality being their lust for money. All four of the inhabitants begin to experience strange events while in the house, including unseen noises and ghosts roaming the halls at night, strange writing on the walls, and other unexplained events. Eleanor tends to experience phenomena to which the others are oblivious. At the same time, Eleanor may be losing touch with reality, and it is implied that at least some of what Eleanor witnesses may be products of her imagination. Another implied possibility is that Eleanor possesses a subconscious telekinetic ability that is itself the cause of many of the disturbances experienced by her and the others, which might indicate there is no ghost in the house at all. This possibility is suggested especially by references early in the novel to Eleanor's childhood memories about episodes of a poltergeist-like entity that seemed to target her home.
Likely, the woman's identity would have been revealed during Flanagan's planned history of Hill House, but for now fans are left speculating. Some theorize that since time isn't linear, maybe this is an even younger version of Mrs. Dudley (Annabeth Gish). However, we're going to take things one step further and imagine that it's actually the ghost of Mrs. Dudley's mother-in-law. We know that she worked at Hill House, so maybe she died there too!
Within the context of Bly, though, it raises the notion of connecting with loved ones after death. In October 2018, Mike Flanagan said that a possible second season would not continue the story of the Crain family, specifying, "it's done." This is probably the hardest question to answer because Hill House defies all neat and logical explanation. So basically, trying to figure out the cause and effect between what occurred because Hill House is insane and what occurred because insane people lived in Hill House is pretty much a futile mission and you should turn back now.

They are relieved to have escaped and won the money but are stuck on the roof of the house, unsure of how to get down. The shape-shifting creature, composed of the spirits in the house, consumes Evelyn, killing her and adding her spirit to its mass. Shortly after, Pritchett is also killed by The Darkness, allowing Price to flee. Price tells Sara and Eddie that the only escape is through the attic. Price opens a window in the attic, then sacrifices himself to give the others time to escape.
The 10-episode series left viewers with a lot of burning questions and few neatly wrapped up answers. While some may argue that the answers to the questions don't matter nearly as much as the emotional impact of the series, we there's never been a puzzle we haven't wanted to solve. Fortunately, between revealing interviews with the cast and creator Mike Flanagan, and the impressive crowd-sourcing power of Reddit, pretty much every question you can imagine has already been answered.
However, Flanagan had written and originally planned to shoot a complete history of the house that would have introduced us to several of the other figures haunting Hill House's halls. In lieu of that, though, one of the show's writers has allegedly been posting stories about the Hill ghosts on Reddit. Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House is a frequently scary, surprisingly emotional saga focused on both past and present. Director Mike Flanagan takes Shirley Jackson's iconic haunted house novel and works into something wholly different, yet equally effective. If you're still sitting around wondering if Abigail was dead the whole time, you're asking the wrong question. The real mystery here is who came to Abigail's aid right after she died. The beautiful ghost definitely wasn't of this time, but she wasn't a spirit we had seen before.
Price visits his assistant Schechter, who is supposed to be managing the party stunts, but finds him horribly mutilated. On the surveillance monitor he sees the ghost of Dr. Vannacutt walking around with a bloody saw. Of course, the Ennis House also makes appearances in non-haunted roles—an animated version was even created for an episode of South Park. The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation credits the property’s exoticism to its lasting Hollywood appeal.
Evelyn and Steven are at one another’s throats, each trying to kill the other. Jennifer, Eddie and Pritchett search the basement for the security system's control panel. While exploring the labyrinthine basement, Jennifer confesses to Eddie that her real name is Sara Wolfe, the recently fired assistant to the real Jennifer. Shortly after, Sara is nearly drowned in a tank of blood by a ghost impersonating Eddie, but the real Eddie arrives in time to save her. Melissa subsequently disappears, leaving behind a massive trail of blood and a camera that shows a little footage of what happened to her.
In the summer of 1992, Hugh and Olivia Crain and their five children—Steven, Shirley, Theodora (Theo), Luke, and Eleanor (Nell)—move into Hill House to renovate the mansion in order to sell it and build their own house, designed by Olivia. Twenty-six years later, the Crain siblings and their estranged father reunite after another tragedy strikes them, and they are forced to confront how their time in Hill House has affected each of them. She told the crowd she wanted the focus to be on the women who'd been killed this year, and the Indigenous and queer people disproportionately affected by violence. On May 4, there will be what might just be the world’s first Star Wars-themed haunted house in Manayunk. Prepayment required submissions will be handled on the very first business day following the weekend and/or holiday schedule.
When they arrive in the cellar, Frederick explains that he loaded her gun with blanks, that his wife and David plotted to kill him, and that they both met their ends in the vat of acid. He says he is ready for justice to decide if he's innocent or guilty. Watson remains convinced the house is haunted, with David and Annabelle now added to its ranks of ghosts, and that he will be the next victim.
Produced by Robert Zemeckis and Joel Silver, it is a remake of the 1959 film of the same title directed by William Castle, and features special effects by famed make-up artists Gregory Nicotero and Dick Smith. “It’s a really modern house, yet it uses ancient forms,” said Michael Wyetzner, architect at Michielli + Wyetzner Architects, in the newest episode of Blueprints, a YouTube series for AD. In the video, Wyetzner breaks down the Ennis House’s role in House on Haunted Hill, as well as the role of five other properties featured in horror films. “It doesn’t have a very domestic scale, it almost looks like it could be a museum or other type of religious building,” he said. “In just a minute, I’ll show you the only really haunted house in the world,” Watson Pritchard, played by Elisha Cook Jr., says in the movie.
